About the farm

New barn. Not new coaches.

The sign says est. 2023. The coaching behind it is a lot older than that.

Our story

What changed was the room

Before the farm there was a warehouse, a barbell club and a decade of coaching, competing and building gym communities in Northern Michigan. Aaron and Leslie ran classes, hosted competitions and put together the volunteer crews that make those weekends work.

In spring 2023 the operation moved out of town and into a finished pole barn on Marion Center Road. Exposed timber, a steel ceiling, a roll up door and a field behind it. The banner from the old space still hangs on the wall, because you do not throw that out.

What did not change is how we coach: every movement taught, every workout scaled, everybody known by name. The setting got quieter and the training got better.

2006

The barbell club years begin. Warehouse space, competitions, volunteer crews.

2022

All levels classes, open gym, Vitality 55+, private training and endurance already running.

2023

Fitness Farm Charlevoix opens in the barn. Grand opening 17 June, free workout and brunch.

Now

Three coaches, fourteen five star reviews, and the only functional fitness box in the area.

Meet the coaches

Three people, every class

Aaron and Leslie coach nearly every session themselves, with Jen on the floor too. There is no rota of part timers here, which is why nobody has to re explain their shoulder twice.

Aaron

Owner · head coach

Named in nearly every review we have. Adapts the methodology to whoever walks in, then trains alongside them rather than watching from a clipboard.

Leslie

Owner · coach

Runs the schedule, answers the messages, remembers who is away and who is coming back. If you text the gym, you are texting Leslie.

The barn

Timber, steel and a door that opens onto a field

Exposed board walls, a corrugated steel ceiling that catches the light, diamond plate matting across the whole floor and matte black Rogue steel on top of it. The letters on the wall are the only sign we have.

Hero WODs & giving back

Free, open, and harder than you want it to be

Twice a year we open the barn to anyone who wants in, charge nothing, and work through a hero workout together. Members, neighbours, first timers, families. There is a flag on the wall for a reason.

Memorial Day weekend

Murph

A mile, a long list of pull ups, push ups and squats, then another mile. Partner it, scale it, walk it. Everybody finishes.

Veterans Day

Chad

One thousand weighted step ups with a ruck. It takes as long as it takes, and the room stays until the last person is done.

All year

Bring a friend

Saturday partner WODs are the standing open invitation. No membership needed to come and see what the hour feels like.
